Sustain-a-Bite joins the global conversation on building healthier and more sustainable food systems with its new campaign #BehindEveryBite. The initiative invites citizens across Europe to take a closer look at what’s on their plates, showing that nutritious, affordable, and environmentally responsible food can also be delicious, creative, and easy to prepare.

A campaign connecting science and everyday life

Modern consumers are increasingly aware of the environmental footprint of what they eat, but many still face barriers when it comes to changing their food habits: price, convenience, or simply not knowing where to start. Through #BehindEveryBite, the project wants to spark curiosity about the science of natural processing, techniques like fermentation and seed bioactivation, which enhance nutritional value while using less energy and water. Sustain-a-Bite’s research shows that these processes can reduce resource use by up to 50% less water and 30% less energy compared to conventional food production, while keeping products up to 25% more affordable than meat or dairy alternatives.

Influencers bringing sustainability to the kitchen

To make this message more relatable, Sustain-a-Bite has teamed up with influencers dedicated to plant-based nutrition and sustainable cooking, who are helping translate science into everyday inspiration.

Among them, @larubiavegana, a young and creative content creator known for her vibrant vegan recipes on social media, has joined the challenge by preparing a colourful plant-based dish: Quinoa Bibimbap-style recipe. Her dish celebrates flavour, balance, and sustainability, demonstrating how simple ingredients can be turned into nutritious, satisfying meals that are kind to the planet.

Meanwhile, @midietacojea, a dietitian-nutritionist and science communicator, will release an educational video exploring the fermentation process, one of Sustain-a-Bite’s key techniques. Fermentation not only enhances taste and digestibility but also reduces waste and improves the overall sustainability of food production.
